XIII PORTUGUESE POLYPHONY FESTIVAL
From 2 to 5 and from 8 to 12 July 2026 | July 2026
Through a series of concerts, the XIII Portuguese Polyphony Festival, organised by the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, reaffirms its commitment to promoting and showcasing the Portuguese musical heritage of the 16th and 17th centuries, a legacy of extraordinary historical and artistic significance. The Cupertinos ensemble will perform in venues of recognised heritage value in Porto, Braga, Coimbra, Alcobaça, Póvoa de Varzim, Amarante and Vila Nova de Famalicão, restoring these works to the architectural and acoustic settings for which they were originally conceived.
Through performances of the vocal repertoire of the most important Portuguese Renaissance composers, this 13th edition of the Portuguese Polyphony Festival seeks to offer audiences not only an aesthetic experience but also historical and musicological insights, highlighting the artistic, educational and institutional networks that, between Évora, Lisbon, Coimbra and the Iberian Peninsula more broadly, gave rise to one of the most fertile and brilliant periods in Portugal’s musical history.
